Rockets 07-08: Inconsistent first quarter of the season

Win 3, Lose 1, Win 3, Lose 6, Win 3, Lose 2, Win 2 (aw, heck, there goes that consistency), Lose 1….

At 11-10, 21 games into an 82-game season, the Rockets have shown the ability to fire on all cylinders in some stretches (at home vs. Memphis, on the road vs. Phoenix), and backfire in others (this Toronto game, Rafer being out not withstanding, Dallas).

The Yahoo sports recap of today’s Rockets-Raptors match offered these words of wisdom:

Houston started the season 6-1 but has gone 5-9 since, a slide Adelman blamed on a schedule that has seen the Rockets play 13 of their first 21 games away from home.

“We’re on the road all the time,” Adelman said. “It’s a little bit different than being home. You’ve got a totally different atmosphere. We haven’t been consistent in the way we’ve played.”

They are 5-3 at home and 6-7 on the road, and, if the playoffs started today, they’d be watching.

Granted, it’s still early for a team that added several new players. But the starting five is the same from last season. Scola, James and Stevie have all shown flashes of brilliance, but they and Luther and Bonzi have disappeared during some games. Last time I checked there was a team named the Boston Celtics that completely revamped their lineup, and they seem to be doing very well.

The Rockets still have 61 games to “gel” and get in the hunt.

  1. I think they should change their strategy.
